POST PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS

Once a child has been placed with you, post placement home visits are required.  These are typically performed by the same person who conducted your preliminary home study.

The fee charged for post placement visits may have been included in your preliminary home study fee or it may be charged separately.  Make sure you ask this question when you are comparing prices and services. Call Pam at 386-747-7811 for some tips when choosing a home study provider.

The post placement requirement varies per agency, state and country.  For instance, Florida post placement visits are required for a minimum period of 90 days and at least two (2) visits with your family.

However, if the adoption is completed through a licensed child placing agency, post placement visits may be required months until the adoption is finalized.

If yours is an international adoption, post placement visits are required as often as your country and/or agency requires.

Please note: International Adoptions are subject to frequent changes in post placement requirements and may change after you begin your home study and before you get a placement.

Following the post placement period for domestic adoption, the home study specialist will prepare a "Final Report and Recommendation" for the court.

Although some adoptive parents might see post placement visits as merely a requirement to finalize their adoption; they can be a wonderful opportunity for you to gain valuable parenting tips and knowledge about raising an adopted child. Utilize your social worker's experience during these visits.  Don't be afraid to ask questions; we are there to help!

In International Adoptions, post placement visits are critical for your agency.  When the reports for these visits are not completed and presented to the country in a timely manner, the agency can be penalized.  It can affect their ability to place children with other families in the future.
