Meet Joshua...
Joshua is an adorable toddler, who is full of energy and love!
Joshua will be two years old in January and he is learning new things everyday. Joshua's foster
parent explained that Joshua is very used to his schedule at home and he is easy to care for as long as he is given his bottle timely! Joshua also eats other food such crackers, fruit, rice, and beans, and he is usually given whatever the family is eating at that time.
Joshua is now standing up by himself, and he has learned to open/close doors and he is grabbing at all objects. Joshua thrives on praise and he was observed to clap his hands after being praised. Joshua is affectionate and he will give kisses. The foster parent thinks that Joshua will easily bond with an adoptive family as long as they spend time with him and treat him well.
Joshua loves to play and he was observed to play with light touch toys in his crib. Joshua loves watching cartoons and will dance along with the songs.
Joshua does have some special needs that will require extra care. Joshua is progressing slowly for his age and is developmentally at the level of a 10 - 11 month old, but with services, he is catching up quickly! Joshua is starting to talk more and he says words such as "bye" and his favorite word is "no". Joshua can walk but only if holding hands with someone.
Joshua has continued to receive physical therapy twice per week, occupational therapy one time per week, and speech therapy two times per week. Joshua was born premature, which affected his lungs. Joshua's breathing, though, has greatly improved and he uses the Albuterol nebulizer treatment only as needed. Joshua takes also takes Prevacid for his acid-reflux and he is no longer taking Regalin. Joshua was also diagnosed with hydrocephalus.
Though this may sound a little scary, about one in one thousand babies have this condition. Hydrocephalus means that Joshua's brain has too much fluid building up, so the doctors placed a shunt (or a catheter) in his head to help drain the fluid to his stomach where it is reabsorbed by his body. Joshua may always have this condition, but it has not interfered with Joshua's activity level. Joshua still has tons of energy and he loves to crawl and dance!
