CUSTODY HOMESTUDY
If you are a Florida resident and are involved in a custody case in Florida or any other state and are in need of a home study, The Adoption & Family Support Center can provide this service for you.
A child custody home study will include:
Paperwork that we provide to you to be completed;
Law Enforcement background clearances for all adults living in your home;
Abuse Registry background checks for all adults living in your home;
At least one interview in your home (with the child present if possible);
Other documents as required, such as court documents (petitions, answers, etc.)
Copies of reports by other professionals in the child's life, such as psychological evaluations, IQ tests, report cards and/or teacher reports, physician's medical records, or any other documents that the social worker deems pertinent to the situation.
All other requirements deemed necessary to enable the social worker to make a complete report to the court regarding the child's best interests.
Things to consider when planning a child custody home study:
The home study must be court ordered or be conducted on the advice of your attorney.
The home study process takes 30 – 45 days to complete. This time frame begins when we receive your completed paperwork. Please keep this time frame in mind with regard to your next court date, as it may need to be extended in order to complete the process.
The Adoption & Family Support Center will provide the Court with a complete written report. Originals will be provided to your attorney and other principals involved.
Child custody home studies are performed on a flat rate basis in the Central Florida area. Mileage may be added if you live in other areas of Florida.
The home study fee is required to be paid when you submit your paperwork. No report will be written until all fees are paid. The complete cooperation of all parties is required to enable the social worker to perform your home study expeditiously and thoroughly.
