DOMESTIC ADOPTIONS
A domestic adoption is the adoption of a child in your resident state or another state in the US (see Interstate Adoptions) through a private attorney or agency.
The Adoption & Family Support Center provides an individualized preliminary home study as required by Florida Statutes. As a licensed child placing agency we are also able to assist you in locating a match and provide needed social services if you already working with a birth family.
During your complimentary and confidential phone consulation, we can answer your questions and provide invaluable information. We will provide you with information that will assist you in making the adoption plan that meets your family's needs. Once these plans have been put in place, the Center will "support" you every step of the way.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of home study paperwork
- Abuse registry and law enforcement clearances
- Pre-placement home interviews
- Preliminary report and recommendation up qualification
- Required post-placement visits
- Final report and recommendation to the court
- Other requirements as needed
The time frame for processing an adoption home study will vary, but on average takes 2-3 months. This is why it is essential to begin this process early. If you have an identified match you should begin the adoption home study several months in advance of your birth mother's due date allowing your social worker ample time to complete the process.
With all of these items completed, you will be ready to bring your baby home from the hospital when he or she is released and you will have ample time to prepare your home for the new arrival!

The Adoption & Family Support Center can provide a home study for you in emergency cases on an expedited basis, but there is an additional fee for an expedited home study (under 30 days to birth date.)
