Adoption News
Families for Orphans Act is a proposal before congress to reach out to other countries to help them develop their social service systems. It promotes reunification and adoption in hopes of limiting the number of children in institutional care. Call your representatives today; let's get this one passed!
Gun Safety has also been in the news. Legislature passing bill (HB 315) which prevents adoption agencies from asking prospective parents if there is a firearm in the home.
Be on the alert for adoption agencies trying to scam adoptive parents. We also need to be kept informed of adoption scammers. Unfortunately this is all too real. Knowledge and education is the key to stopping these individuals.
Adopting from China has changed over the past several years. Due to longer wait and just the lack of available babies, some adoptive parents look towards adopting Special Needs children. It is not something to be ventured into too quickly, but it is another option for certain parents who believe this is what they are "meant to do".

Welcome Back!
Happy Mother's Day!
The Adoption & Family Support Center is excited to announce our partnership with Martha Murray. As a Chinese Adoption Coordinator, she provides invaluable assistance while families are built through International Adoption. Take a look at all the fun these families had at the Chinese New Year Celebration. Are you or someone you know interested in adopting from China? Join Angela and Martha at the 2010 Reunion on May 29th! Take this opportunity to visit with families and to find out if adopting from China is right for you.
We hope you had a chance to look at our new website. With the consent of our families, we have slowly been replacing "stock photos" with adoptive family photos and the results are priceless! We still have more pages to go and would like your help! Browse the website and if you have a funny photo from your family, please submit it to us. If your photo is selected, we will contact you via e-mail and give you a sneak preview of your new little star!
Our birth parent support group, “Placement from the Heart Support Group” has successfully held two meetings so far. We held our recent meeting in the Orlando area and will begin to alternate meetings to try and accommodate all attendees. If you have any items that you would like to donate to the group, please send us an e-mail and we will pick them up.
Have you had a chance to look at the Adoptive Parent Toolbox? It has everything you need to locate your perfect match and we can customize this to fit your specific needs.
Our facebook Fan Page is a huge success! Thank you all for sharing your insights and lending a helping hand when others are in need of information. Please "invite" your friends to be fans. Also, feel free to pass information you have learned in this newsletter to your friends, co-workers or family members that may be interested in learning more about adoption. Our website hosts a wealth of information and we are only a phone call away to answer any questions you or someone you know may have!
Once again we would like to note that when the Haitian government opens its doors to international placements we will support this effort by discounting our home study fees. When and if this time comes we hope you will join us in securing permanent homes for these deserving children.
